Used to be 70% Chlordane mixed in a spray worked great, now the best thing to do is find their nests and attack those. In Mexico we had probably ten different kinds of ants in and around our house and some we just never could get completely rid of. Some liked sweet things, others salty things, and some just plants. Taro worked with some, and insecticide for the rest. For a yard, the best thing you can do is observe where they are going, find their nests and nuke with insecticde if they won't take borax/sugar or Taro.
If they are fire ants, there are special insecticides, but you will never get rid of all of them.
