A lot of the times it could be a bad cell in your battery . But since it did it with the old one & now with the new one , I'd say its the voltage regulator sticking . You could try tapping the VR with a small hammer to see if that helps . Maybe take the VR cover off & check for cob webbs across the circuits & excessive dirt . Clean it up internally before installing the cover .Also check the keyed switch & start button for shorts . Remove the battery cables & check for shorts , clean al ends shiny & brite , then smear dielectric grease on all connections .HTH ! God bless
