In Michigan (at the yard I sell to)

Photocopy of drivers license

Plate number of truck/trailer wrote on weigh slip

Thumb print on their copy of weigh slip

Pay by check on anything over $49.99

Cars Must be accompanied by titles and titles MUST be in the name of someone in the truck hauling it in.. if the part of the vehicle you haul in has a VIN you need a title.

They tell me this is all state law now, but another local yard still pays cash as well as don't do a lot of this stuff, but on average pay 75 or more less a ton... I'll jump through the hoops for the extra cash.
