I was born in '39 so I've spotty memory of the war and Roosevelt. In the forties I can remember Dad working threshing and hay for $.65 and then milking six cows morning and evening. In the fifties farm wages were bumped to $.75. My first job was driving tractors for bundle wagons at half-man wage of $.40. The job I had when I left to visit Uncle Sam in '62 was a $1.00 and by then gas was $.20. In fact when I came back in '66 and hired on with AT&T I started at $2.09, top scale was $2.75.
