: : : Just put a new 5ft. Woods mower on my Super A, low gear seems a little under powered, second gear is way under powered and heats a little, mowing about 2 to 21/2 inches high, front of deck about 3/4 lower than back, turns easy by hand, any good ideals would sure help. Had a B Allis with same set up and it would play with it, I know it's more HOSS but figured the red paint would make up the difference? Thanks for any help, Wesley
: : something is wrong I have a a with a 6 ft woods that cuts grass 8 inchs high in first gear and 4inch high grass in second. and i have a cub that has a 5 ft mower that will cut 4 inch high grass. did the mower come off a cub a cub pto runs motor rpms about 1600 and backwards ? are you running off the pto 540 rpm or the belt pulley 1500 rpms ? Is the drive pulley the right dia. these mowers were sold to fit many tractors so if you put the pulleys from a diferent on your a the mower will go to fast or to slow.you can ck with your woods dealer for spindle rpms and get a hand held tach and ck the spindle rpms and adjust the drive pulley.a 5ft mower on a super a is small most everone has a 6 foot. the super a should burn up the gas with a 5 foot mower from a cub because a has double the hp off a cub please let me know what you found joe new york

: Joe, the mower is new, the speed sounds good on the mower, We mowed with it last night and run in second, but just sounds like its on hard pull, not sure the governor is working right, as my neighbor and I tried to adjust for more RPM and it wouldn't let the R's come up any. This grass really didn't need cutting. Wesley

Something is definitly wrong. My "A" has a 5ft. Woods and it mows normally in 3rd. I have to use 1st only if the grass is about 8-10 inches. If you bought the deck from a Woods dealer, give him a call. If not, find the nearest Woods dealer and verify all the pulleys are correct. Find an inductive tachometer (most chainsaw repair shops have one)and verify the rpms are 1550-1600 at full throttle. If everything checks out okay, then comes the bad new--start checking for engine problems--like poor compression. Keep us posted on your progress and we will continue to try to help. Good luck.

I have been a collector of Farmall tractors since 1990 when I first obtained part of the family farm in Eastern Indiana. My current collection includes a 1938 F20, 1945 H, 1946 H, and the recently purchased 1951 H. This article will focus on what I encountered and what I did to bring the 1951 NEAR DEATH Farmall H back to life. ... [Read Article]
