Only difference between the dyed fuel and the road-use fuel is the color added and the price. Diesel fuel is diesel fuel. Number 2 diesel, all the same.
Most all heating oil is also just diesel fuel. Now with the ultra low sulfur issue, it's possible there aren't the attitives in the furnace fuel, but mostly it's also just #2 diesel....
In cold condtions some gets blended with a bit of anti-gel attitive, or #1 diesel fuel which does not gel. But still and all, it's all just diesel fuel, all works in a diesel engine the same. Only difference is the red color is added to the stuff that is not road-taxed.
