Remember, you don't cut with the gas that feeds the flame. It is only there to get the metal up to a temp that the oxygen stream can oxidize the metal away. If you have a steady hand you can get a cut started and turn the gas off and keep cutting. I used to work with a guy that could split a 8 ft sheet of 1/2" plate that way. About 2 foot is all I ever made it!. My favorite now is a plasma cutter. cuts ANY metal leaving it cool.
