HVLP question

Hi guys, I new to the hvlp concept, been
painting for years with regular gun. I bought a
hvlp gun from harbor freights, I know its a
cheapy. Anyways, I did'nt want to invest a lot
till I tried one. I went to spray some tractor
fenders yesterday and I had to turn my
regulator up to almost 80 psi to get paint
through it. Actually did a pretty good job ,with
hardly any overspray. I'm wondering though,is
it normal to need that high of PSI? My
compressor was turning n every few minutes.
