what is it

I have a cast iron thing that I believe may be hung on porch with three screws. It has JohnDeere in a circle with a deer in the center below the deer is the words Moline, Illinois with 1847 below this. Then it looks like a letter holder or note holder below this and has an emblem of a mule breaking plow on front of the section which appears to be the letter holder. Please help me identify this and what it is actually used for. Thanks, Milton
