The most common sized Ertl rear tires are called 1 inch by 4 inch and 1 1/2 inch by 4 inch, though they are closer to 1 and 3/4 by 4. There is a noticeable difference between the ones and one-one/half. The one by fours are on tractors like the IH 706. 806, 826, JD R, 80, Case 600, 800 etc. These will many times have single rib front tires, sometimes plastic. Something like the Allis Chalmers D21, 220, 7000 series, John Deere 5020s, Case 2590, 2594, 3294 will have the fatter rear tires. Likewise on the front tires the tires will be wider for the tractors with the 1- 1/2 by 4s. Cannot remember the numbers but they are called two-rib for the tread pattern. Again wider on the fronts of the big Allis, Case and John Deere toys. Also the same size used on the original Massey 1155 toys. As mentioned, there are radials and custom pulling tires now that are usually marked with the tire size on the sidewalls of the tire just like the full size ones. Hope this helps.
