I have a Ford digger on an 8N working in clay. New cutting edges helped alot but not always. What I do is add a 5 to 8' bar to the back of the digger frame and either add some weights or have a person press down on it. Always keep an operator on the tractor with the second option. I have to be sure to control the depth feed rate once I get through the hard-pan. The thing can screw itself into the ground fast enough that the 3 point won't lift it out. If that happens then I shut the tractor off (hydraulics and engine)and have to back the auger out by applying a 24" pipe wrench to the PTO drive shaft. Hope that helps.
