I am wanting to buy a lawn tractor, not a Rembrandt or a classic car. What investment? To me, a lawn tractor is a tool to use for lawn maintenance and for tinkering around and playing "farmer". A few doodads like lug tires and a three point hitch for tillers, blades, etc. will make me happy as a clam. Spending more money to get green paint and bragging rights is not what I need to do. Your decision to buy the excellent John Deere LX277 is a good one, based upon your needs and wants. My needs and wants are a price I will pay, a Briggs and Stratton engine, preferably with an oil filter, and a machine dependable enough to do what I want it to do. I tend to get tired of things like this in less than five years and want something different. So the less I have to pay for what I need, the sooner I can trade it for something diffferent that I will want later. I broke down and paid 450 dollars for a John Deere PZ14 push mower ten years ago, because I got tired of cheap push mowers losing wheels and breaking decks. The JD has served me well with only one spark plug, two air filters, one blade and a bag for the catcher being the only expense. Great machine. I am definitely a JD lawn equipment fan, but their tractors are rediculously high priced for my needs and are powered by strange engines. The only service department I need is my garage, and parts for the MTD are as near as your Sears and Sawbuck store! My two cents. Enjoy your Deere and all the best........Greg
