Having trouble diagnosing starting problem for 1999 John Deere LX255 15hp Kohler I just purchased. Previous owner said it was running fine 2 weeks ago, parked it, wouldn't start, installed new battery, still won't start. I bought it at auction and it started when they jump started it to a truck. I've double-checked the new battery and its a good battery. I replaced the coil, a common problem with this kolher, but still won't start. The battery suddenly discharges when trying to start. It won't crank or make a noise. The ignition light is on for several seconds and then it goes dead and the battery is drained. It's not getting spark. My next guesses are the ignition module circuit board, starter, or solenoid. I don't think its any of the safety switches because it started fine when jump started and ran ok but once you take the battery cables off to the truck it dies. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.
