I got my parts book out and looked at it. If your clutch release shaft was moving in and out any significant ammount, you may have busted the clutch release sleeve carrier. I hope not, but I think that part is aluminum or something and not too strong. If all is OK in there, be sure to put a lock washer on the tapered bolt when you put it back. If you want, I can scan the parts book page and send it to you. It is for an M, not a Super M.
