While someone else may get deeper into the chemistry I believe the problem with the 2 cycle is due to the alcohol not allowing the oil to mix properly and lube as it should. Alcohol does burn much cooler and probably would not run well at all in cool weather. On a side note Top fuel race cars run Nitro Methane cut 10% with alcohol (app $35.00 per gallon)... a totally different animal and highly explosive. A wrong mix with this and goodbye engine. AA alcohol cars do run alcohol and experience freezing problems in the fuel system and intakes but mostly run in warmer weather. A lot of gas stations locally here sell a 10% blend which runs fine in 4 cycle engines (not in 2 cycle though). I would hesitate before running much more than this unless you do some more research.
