Cub with red/orange paint

My friend recently bought a 1947 Cub and under the grease and in some hidden places found some orange paint. He described it as mostly red, but sort of orange. Is this original? He told me the paint was in areas not really accessible to weathering. On an earlier post, someone described a Cub as being possibly from a state maintenance department. I think he described the paint as close to red, just orangy. I have not seen it, so I am relating this second hand. Anyone have any ideas?
