There were few differences from 1948-1954. One of them was that they changed the governor setting from 1600 RPM on earlier machines to 1800 RPM on later machines. The RPMs are stamped on the mfg tag on the right side of the fron casting. The 48s could be had with or without hydraulics. Tractors with the manual lift typically fetch $500 or so less depending on location. Any other difference are somewhat insignificant

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
