Thanks for that info. My element and strainer have both been in the coffee can of gasoline for a well needed bath and scrub down. From the looks of the gunk that was plastered on both items, I would guess that neither had been replaced since 1990 or so. Since I acquired it I have used it for maybe forty hours before I discovered what a hydro strainer/element was. You can help, however. Was the original strainer made from metal, as opposed to the later screen version with element? It seems to me that if I am able to restore my screen strainer and then run it without a filter element, that fluid pressure would crush the screen. Am I correct? Thanks again.
