We know for certain that mismatched rear tires requires the spider gears in the differential to work almost continuously any time the tractor is in motion. I believe a tractor will tolerate this more than an automobile, for example. Tractors used for plowing tend to wear one tire more than the other and often are operated in this condition for quite a long time thereafter. You may never experience a problem. Personally, I think that this is not a good practice and would suggest that the best practice is to have matched tires at the rear. Does anyone seriously want to test to see how long till failure of the spider gears from mismatched tires?
