Well I don't see anyone else chipping in, so I'll try. I really have no idea, except how I fixed my Farmall. And I couldn't find picture of a 300-U. If it has mechanical steering [ no power steering ] you might jack the front end up an inch, play with the steering wheel and determine where the slop is. Might have to remove the hood too. If the slop is inside the steering box, start taking things aaprt, you might find worm gears / sector gears / bushings worn badly. In that case, I found it is simple to just replace them. I tried all sorts of tricks, but nothing stayed, until I replaced worm gear. Best of luck.
