If going to replace transmission gears you just as well remove the 6 bolts in the housing and pull the complete input shaft out. Then you can use a puller or a plate with holes in it across the flange with a spacer in the middle and some bolts through holes. Unless long threads you will have to space more than once. That's if you don't have a better way to remove. Can't drive the shaft down after its out because of the key contacting the front bearing. Can't replace any transmission gears without the input shaft coming out.
