Early 560 came with a bull gear that would interchange with a M. But after that the teeth pattern was changed more than once on 560 tractors and also on early ones that got the full updates installed. IH had a update program. Updated bull gears or 560 tractors built after updates were factory installed don't mesh right with a M bull pinion gear. Axle spline size still the M size. Know of some that have ground the part of M clamp that goes in the keyway off and used them on a one keyway axle. Good chance they could fail at maximum pull and traction. M clamp used four 3/4 inch diameter bolts. 560 clamps used four 7/8 diameter bolts. IH did make a wheel for M type rims with axle clamps just like a 560 and a steel axle key. Came out about 1955 and looks just like a M wheel except in the clamp area. Used as a replacement wheel for previous tractors with 2.75 axles. At 560 serial number 13814 up axles were changed from alloy steel to a carbon steel and method of hardening changed from furnace hardening to induction hardening to increase the strength of axle.
