John, is this what you are talking about? They were called "Hi-Trac". They used just about any utility sized tractors. This one is a IH 404, and I've seen IH 300U's and Ford Jubilee type tractors too. Originally they were used for platforms for flame culitivators in cotton. Notice the propane tank underneath and the water saddle tanks. Burners burned the weeds in the middles and water jets sprayed on the cotton plants to keep them from getting burned. Flame cultivating didn't really get popular so people put spray booms on these tractors for chemical weed control.
