My father had one that he cleared a lot of land with in the late 40's. On about my first birthday he traded it on a new tractor to farm the land with, so I don't remember it. He comented on how it was heavy and clumsy compared to the JD's we had in the 60's. I think that it was a fairly reliable system although quite complex. We later had a super WD9 which was a very similar engine, I believe. The owner of the resort we go to in the summer has a 450D that he uses for odd jobs, and I enjoy the sound of it starting and switching over to diesel.
