Nice discussion. The TA whole body with planetaries rotates in the same direction as the engine and trans input shaft when in direct drive. When in TA reduction, the housing and planetarys are free to rotate backwards CCW looking from the front of the tractor. This motion is stopped by the sprag clutch, and held stationary (torque reaction forces). The sprag is not a ratchet, it is a series of wedges that release clockwise and wedge against the smooth surfaces (inner and outer) when turned CCW.
