I think you and a couple of the other guys may be real close in the answer. If you think it is starving for air it may be if you are using the old gasoline engine air filter. I would assume the diesel uses a bigger one which can flow more air. I spent quite a bit of time on a neighbor's 756 with German diesel, he had it cranked up to 115 h.p., would pull a 5-16 10" deep for days on end, did real well at the local pull, too!
