It's been a while since I helped my dad serviced the one we had, but I remember it being on the right side and it is an odd shape for a filter. Can't remember what the cover looked like, but I do remember it was a pain to change and only went out and back in one way on ours. Dads was a hydraul shuttle with the torque converter drive. He put Pistons rings in it in 1980, didn't matter how long it sat, throw batteries in it, glow plug it for about 30 seconds and it always fired right up.
