These were some of IH's early attempts at making horsepower using RPMs instead of engine displacement. Neither tractor is a torque monster as a gasser, but if you keep the RPMs up they do just fine in the field.
I've heard a lot about the 504s and 460s being gutless from people around where I grew up. That could be because farmers were used to being able to lug their M's right down to the last RPM
