As for the big spring, no the beams do not trip, it is just a big "cushion" to absorb a little shock if you hit a big rock. I was making the last pass along a fence and due to being so close to the barbed wire, I had our SC idled down to about 1/2 throttle. Hit a rock that stopped it dead, killed the engine and about threw me over the gas tank. Don't know if the spring helped any at all, but it may have kept me off the hot muffler.
