Scott, 10 to 1 the water pump is fine. Sounds like a stuck thermostat. It probably has the original long assembly thermostat. It will take some prying and cussing to tear it out of the cast iron housing. I stick the housing in a bench vise, use offset plyers and literally rips the old assembly out. You can pick up a car type thermostat at NAPA. Part number is 28 THM.
