even tho i suggest you rent a auto type engine hoist and use it,yes the front end can be supported with a floor jack,however,you must put some blocks between the front of the frame and the front axle on each side so that the engine can not pivot when it is separated from the clutch housing.the pan can support the weight.again if youve never before,split a tractor you should use a hoist
