Splines are getting loose on the tie rod arms on the top of the front wheel spindles on the 1086. This is a loader tractor. Is there anything available out there that is better than the straight splined spindle and arm the factory offers?
A local machine shop used to slit the arm at the splines and weld on a couple of stubs with holes to put a cross bolt through to clamp the arm tight on the splines. I had that done to the factory arms and it did clamp well onto the splines but the cross clamping bolts broke from the extra stress on the steering when I had saddle tanks on the tractor. A loader is worse than saddle tanks.
The other day this tractor was a little squirrelly going wide open down the road. Upon investigation I found the top trunion bolt gone from the steering cylinder and the bottom bolt half out. I don't get this tractor into high gear often so I don't know how long the top bolt was out before I discovered it. I could have very easily had a wild ride into the ditch if that bottom bolt would have dropped out. Ouch! Jim
