does the plate have 2 bolts holding it on? sounds like your transmission front seal is leaking, if that is it you will have to split it in half . there is also a cover on the bottom counter shaft that is held by 3 bolts ande has a basket in it , if this leaking you should be able to change the gasket with out slitting the tractor.
