A multi-weight 15w-40, such as Shell Rotella seems to be the oil of choice for most of these older tractors. If you have a Case-IH dealer locally, that is where you should get the filter, and be sure to get the rubber O-ring as well, and USE it.
Without looking it up, I will guess that it will take 8 quarts.
