I would have also thought that a modern seal doesn't need any additional seals. But I believe I have two circular felt seals in my rebuild kit. Maybe the smaller of the two is for the water pump. Although where does the WP seal go? When I took the parts off the engine, I didn't notice any seals around the WP.
