Check for the engine number. It is stamped into a machined boss at the upper edge of the engine block, right side, near front. It is partly hidden behind the governor control rod. Should read "FABM" and some digits. Engine and serial numbers were equal up to a certain point in production, after which they were no longer synchronized.

If you go by the engine number, you should also cross check engine cassting date codes against other parts of the tractor to see if the engine has been switched.
