I have worked on quite a few of those and there is usually rust on all the electrical. But if you have replaced the switch you must have a wire on the wrong place if you have an operators manual it might have a wirring diagram in it. Or just take one wire of at a time until you find which one runs to the flasher. There is one post that just has juice on the first setting and then it goes of on the second or third setting. My 1979 686 works that way.
