Frankly I would go with whatever is most comfortable.
Push = up would be totally bass-ackward for me, for example.
Anything I've ever used was set up for pull back to lift, push forward to lower.
The logic being, you're looking backward watching the implement when you come to the end of the row. If you pushed to raise, you'd have to lean forward to reach, and most likely take your eyes of the implement unless you have long arms.
When you lower the implement, you're looking forward to make sure you're lined up with the next row, so the push action doesn't disrupt you like it would if you were lifting the implement.
On modern tractors with side consoles, it really doesn't matter because you don't have to reach, period.
