The rear adapter plate from the gas engine was also used for diesels so just reuse the back plate.
The flywheels are different between the 656D and 656G but they use the same clutch. The 560 starter will not work but the gas flywheel will bolt onto the diesel engine. They use the same crankshaft. I believe the diesel flywheel is heavier so the gas flywheel may cause the diesel to not run smooth. If you use a starter for a 656 diesel hydrostatic tractor (starter number 1113201) it will work with the gasoline flywheel. otherwise find a 656D flywheel and starter. I don't recall for sure but you may have to grind a bit off the bottom of the commutator end frame of the hydro starter for clearance on the center section. I don't remember it it was the gear drive or the hydro that needed that little bit of extra space.
As posted in an earlier reply if you mount the front of the engine on top of the frame rails as it was in the 560 you can probably get by without any changes to the front of the engine.
The exhaust hole in the hood will be on the wrong side and you will need the air cleaner duct pipes for a 656D.
If you can find a parted out 656D to get the items you need it should not be too bad a job.
