6 volt systems get an undeserved bad rap. They work just fine if the battery is charged properly, the cables are the right size and all the connections are clean and tight. But, if you really want to change over to 12 volts, check through the article archives on the left side of these pages. Bob M has several very good articles and diagrams there on that subject.
