Kenneth - Your tractor was set up positive ground from the factory. But if the charging system works, the ammeter reads the right direction (shows "-" when the ignition switch is pulled out with the engine off), and the switch to coil wire is hooked to the "+" side of the coil, it'll be fine left hooked up negative ground.

Now some people claim running these tractors negative ground will cause premature failure of the voltage regulator. But I've never seen any evidence of this myself.
