140 Trans noises

My 140 is running like a top. Moved over 3 feet of record snow this week. Gotta question though. When going forward in any gear, the trans whines pretty loud, but I guess that's normal. But when I back up, like a long run down the driveway, not only does she whine, but there is a rattle sound, like marbles hitting around in there. Should I quit using it..do I need to fix something, or is this normal too. Operation in reverse is just fine. Happy Holidays geo
