We used rim-mount duals on our SM for years when we were farming with it. Our purpose was not stablility, but traction and flotation, as our ground is pretty flat. The duals DO put more strain on the axles, so don't slam the thing over rough ground. The rim-mounts worked fine for us, but it is absolutely essential that they be pulled up TIGHT with the turnbuckles, and then CHECKED again after a few hours of running! After re-tightening on the first day of the planting season, they would cause us no problems the rest of the time. As mentioned in another post below....don't expect duals to save you if you're in a close-to-rollover situation!
