Called local tractor salvage yards for a block. Nobody has any C-281 blocks. Found 2 C-264 blocks 1 from a 400 other out of Super M. $450 and $400 quoted price plus the 2 hr round trip drive to the closer of the 2 yards. Gary Baker quoted $600 for a clean block that has been magnafluxed and all checked out good. Cheapist stock piston 4.125 and sleeve set I found is $399 and Im sure cast pistons made in China. Called Arias Pistons price quoted $748 for Forged Pistons 4.375" including rings, wrist pins, and retainer's. Figure I can make the filler rings myself on the lathe. Adding it all up it works out about the same in price to buy a new block and a cheap piston sleeve set as it does to have the higher quality pistons with the .25 larger bore then the stock block would have. Only down fall I see is next rebuild in 25 + years.
