I bought a SMTA with the transmission out, gears, bearings etc were stored in bins. I have the parts manual and another good running SMTA to look at when things do not seem right. I have the transmission back in the tractor but when I roll it forward or backward there is a noise in the transmission. If I remove the shifter and move the 1 and reverse rail about 1/4 of an inch to the rear the noise is gone. However, in this position the ball above the spring is not in one of the rail indented areas. I thought I might have the wrong rail and fork but the rail and fork have the correct part number for this tractor. Anyone have any idea of what to check?
