From my reading of the original post, he is referring to a MANUAL steering gear box. Nothing to do with TA or transmission.
Also, one quart of the TA additive (black smelly stuff) contained as much extreme pressure additives as four gallons of early Hy-Tran did. Thus, it worked very well in manual steering gear boxes to reduce steering effort and reduce galling of the gears.
