The original IH additive was some black foul smelling stuff that was very concentrated extreme pressure additives. It worked extremely well as a steering gear lube when used full strength and that is what was originally used on those manual gear boxes while it was available. I have no idea if the number Slater gave is that same additive. IH does have another additive now that is to be used in hy-tran if you experience squealing wet brakes and have been using certain formula's of hy tran. I have the service bulletin but not at hand right now that explains it. Reason it caught my attention is I have changed the brake discs on a 5288 that were squealing. They looked like new but the new ones took care of the problem. I did not know of that additive at the time. That additive has nothing to do with steering gear lubricant at all. If I could get ahold of that original stuff I would use it in that gear box.
