Don H and Tim (nj) both give a good explination of the Farmall vs International. There are exceptions though. Some of the Utility tractors were made in a Hi-Crop or High-Clear version which made them row crop with the same crop clearance as the related Farmall, but they still had the lower seating and front axle configuration of the International Utilities. An example would be a International 350 Utility which was a utility type tractor, A Farmall 350 which was a row crop type tractor with either wide front, tricycle front, or single front, or a International 350 Utility Hi-Crop which was basicly a 350 utility with Farmall type rear axles and Farmall 38" wheels and a taller front end which made it a row crop with the same crop clearance as a Farmall 350 but it still had the lower seating and shorter wheelbase of the 350 Utility. Wayne mentioned that he had a Farmall 806 row crop and a International 856 row crop. If his 856 is a row crop it is also a Farmall. With the introduction of the 56 series, International was in big letters on the side of the hood and Farmall appeared in small letters over the 856 on the side of the radiatore cowl. In the catalog you still ordered a Farmall, not a International if you wanted a row crop type 856. It was also still available with a wide front axle, tricycle front axle, or single front wheel, although by this time in our area wide fronts were outselling tricycle fronts on this size tractor.
I hope this doesn't confuse everybody.

Harold H

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Godfrey, Illinois Country Days - by Cindy Ladage. Except for last fourth of July's Old Gold show in Springfield, Illinois, I don't remember when it was so hot. Nevertheless, the heat didn't keep vendors and visitors alike from enjoying the third annual Country Day's Event. Jane Elliott said the event was originally a one man show. "Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this ... [Read Article]
