If I understood his last post the tractor will still go in 5th and the PTO shaft quit driving the hydraulic pump. PTO would still have full power and the tractor wouldn't move in 5th if the bull pinion shaft was broke or the differential gears failing. If the differential gears are failing it may catch enough to go though. Hard to say without being there. One post said the PTO was turning slow compared to the input shaft. But without more info that could be normal since the PTO shaft turns at less than half the engine RPM.
