I think you are correct. It is fossil based but most likely has synthetic additives. I know it sure looks and smells different than it did 30 years ago. Back then it was redder and had a sweet smell. That actually changed probably 20 years ago or so. Don"t know if there was any change then as far as additives or not. Truth be told I"m guessing most of the quality fossil based oils we are using today have some sort of synthetic additive. Hytran is expensive but I refuse to substitute it with anything else.
